Augmented Reality in the Classroom - Using Blippar and Aurasma

Augmented Reality (AR) is one of many buzz words in the tech world, with games like Pokemon Go being massively popular amongst most students. AR is an enhanced version of reality created by the use of technology to overlay digital information on an image of something being viewed through a device. With Pokemon Go your smartphone's GPS signal is used to detect your location. As you walk around, your avatar is overlaid on a real-world map, along with in-game content and there are constant rewards for being in different areas and walking to different places.

Can this enthusiasm be recreated in schools? Can AR turn create game-like excitement? Or add videos and sound to all displays? Give individualised feedback to students?

This session will introduce you to two tools "blippar" and "Aurasma". You will see how easy it is to create AR in your classroom and around your school. We will run through how students can easily access these tools, how to set up your own AR and different ways in which it can be used to enhance classroom learning.
